NAME:
Bald Head
Island Croquet Club of The Bald Head Island
Club
PURPOSE:
1. To join together for fellowship in playing
croquet.
2. To encourage,
promote and develop the game of croquet on
Bald Head
Island.
3. To promote, hold
and manage croquet tournaments, matches,
etc. on Bald
Head Island.
4. To encourage
participation in croquet matches and
tournaments sponsored
by the United States
Croquet Association.
EXECUTIVE
COMMITTEE:
The Executive
Committee shall consist of the officers of
the club, social chairman, tournament
chairman, and three (3) members elected
at-large. The Executive Committee shall have
management and control of all croquet club
properties and shall have general
supervision of its interests and affairs. It
shall authorize all contracts and purchases.
It shall have no power to render the Club
liable beyond the amount that shall be in
the treasury at that time or in excess of
assets unless special funds are raised
therefore. Otherwise there must be
acquiescence by written ballot of at least
two-thirds of the members.
The Executive
Committee shall act as the Croquet Committee
of the Bald Head Island Club, promoting
croquet among all interested Bald Head
Island Club members. As stated in the BHI
Club By-Laws: "The Croquet Committee shall
advise the Board of Governors on the
promulgation of playing rules for members
and their guests. The Croquet Committee
shall advise the Board of Governors on the
condition of and make recommendations
concerning the croquet greensward."
The Executive
Committee shall meet monthly.
OFFICERS:
Officers
of the Bald Head Island Croquet Club shall
consist of President, Vice-President,
Secretary and Treasurer.
DUTIES OF
OFFICERS:
The President
shall be the presiding officer of the club
and shall act as Chairman of the Croquet
Committee of the Bald Head Island Club. The
President shall act as delegate to the
United States Croquet Association. He shall
be the Executive Officer of the club under
the direction of the Executive Committee. He
shall sign all contracts made by the club
unless he expressly appoints another member
of the Executive Committee to sign such
contracts. He shall make a detailed report
at the annual meeting reviewing the
activities of the club during the year
immediately past.
The Vice-President
shall fulfill the duties of the President in
his absence.
The Secretary
shall keep a record of all meetings of the
club and proceedings of the Executive
Committee. He shall have custody of all
documents, periodicals and correspondence of
the club. He shall send written notices for
meetings of the club and for matches and
tournaments scheduled.
The Treasurer
shall collect all monies due the club and
deposit the same in a bank approved by the
Executive Committee. He shall make a
detailed report of receipts and
disbursements for the year at the annual
meeting. The President shall appoint a
member to perform an audit in collaboration
with the Treasurer prior to the annual
meeting.
ELECTION OF
OFFICERS:
All officers
shall be elected by the club at its annual
meeting. They shall hold their respective
offices until the next annual meeting when
their successors have been chosen and have
accepted office. Any vacancies of officers
or members-at-large shall be filled by the
Executive Committee.
NOMINATING
COMMITTEE:
The Nominating
Committee shall be appointed by the
President. The Nominating Committee shall
submit a proposed slate of officers and
members-at-large at the annual meeting.
Nominations may also be made from the floor.
Elections shall be by majority
vote.

There may be other committees
appointed from time to time by the President
as the need arises.
CLASSIFICATION
OF MEMBERS:
There shall be
individual and couple memberships. A couple
membership is required of any married
members in order for the spouse to
participate in any club function. Membership
in the Bald Head Island Club is required.
USCA
MEMBERSHIP:
The club shall
be a member of the United States Croquet
Association (USCA). Individual membership
in the USCA will be included in the
annual dues and will be paid to the USCA by
the club.
DUES:
Annual
dues shall be set and payable for the fiscal
year at the annual meeting. Failure to
receive dues
within 30 days of
notification shall constitute automatic
resignation from the club.
ASSESSMENT:
Assessments may be proposed by the Executive
Committee from time to time as appears in
their judgment to be necessary.
Assessments must be approved by 2/3 vote of
the members. Assessments shall be payable
upon notice and failure to pay assessments
within 30 days constitutes automatic
resignation from the club.
ELECTION OF
MEMBERS:
Members
must be members of the Bald Head Island Club
and comply with all rules
and
regulations of the Bald Head Island Club.
MEETINGS:
There shall be
an annual meeting of the Bald Head Island
Croquet Club in August.
The
Secretary shall give at least a five (5) day
written notice of the annual meeting to all
members.
There may be other
called meetings as determined by the
Executive Committee
ORDER OF
BUSINESS:
Order of
business at the annual meeting shall be:
1. Call to order.
2. Reading of the minutes
of last annual meeting and any called
meetings.
3. President's Report
4. Treasurer's
report.
5. Vote on annual
dues.
6. Report of
committees:
a. Nominating Committee report and election
of officers
b. Other committee reports
7. Old business
8. New business
9. Adjournment
QUORUM:
One-third of
the members shall constitute a quorum of the
club for the transaction of business.
AMENDMENTS:
No alterations
or amendments shall be made to these by-laws
unless written notice is presented to the
membership fifteen (15) days prior to the
meeting at which amendments are to be made.
A two-thirds vote of those present at the
meeting, provided a quorum is present, shall
be required for passage of the alteration or
amendment.
RULES &
REGULATIONS:
There shall be
rules and regulations adopted by the
Executive Committee and/or membership of
Bald Head Island Croquet Club pertaining to
conduct of the club, its matches and
tournaments, and social activities. The
Executive Committee may adopt policies and
rules for the participation of minor
children of members in Croquet Club
activities.
The Executive
Committee of the Croquet Club shall hold
separate meetings when acting as the Croquet
Committee of the Bald Head Island Club.
The Croquet Committee of the Bald Head
Island Club shall report on croquet
activities of the Bald Head Island Club and
make recommendations regarding croquet to
the Board of Governors of the Bald Head
Island Club.
A dress code
for the croquet courts shall be recommended
to the Bald Head Island Club Board of
Governors and approved by that Board.
The newly
elected officers will follow the schedule
for the calendar year as established by the
retiring officers.
